Abstract

ation between the students’ motivation and their writing ability. This was quantitative research applied correlational design. The population of this study was the eighth grade students at SMP N 17 Bintan, and the sample of the research was 28 students. The instruments of this research were questionnaire and writing test. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result showed that students’ motivation and their writing skill was 61.71 and 39.21. The result showed that Pearson Product Moment calculation is rxy (1.00) and significant α (0.05). Because the data rxy was higher than significance alpha (α). Therefore, it can be concluded that there was significant correlation between students’ motivation and their writing skill. The higher students’ motivation, the higher students’ writing skill will be.
