Abstract

This study aims to find out the correlation between students’ perception towards English learning and their English speaking skill at seventh grade students of SMP Islam Terpadu Al-Madinah Tanjungpinang. A correlational design was used as the design of the study with one class of seventh grade of SMP Islam Terpadu AlMadinah Tanjungpinang with 25 students as the sample of the research. A questionnaire was spread online at the beginning of the study. A speaking test was also run at the end of the study. The scores of two instruments then were analyzed by using SPSS 21 and MiniTab to find the mean score between the two variables. Then calculating the correlational score was also run to answer the research hypothesis. The statistical analysis applied to this research indicated that there is strong correlation between students’ perception towards English learning and their English speaking skill at seventh grade students of SMP Islam Terpadu Al-Madinah Tanjungpinang in this 2020, Thus, it answers the research hypothesis that there is any significant correlation between students’ perception towards English learning and their English speaking skill at seventh grade students of SMP Islam Terpadu AlMadinah Tanjungpinang.
