Abstract
The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of Board Games on students’ speaking skill in descriptive text at SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang. This research used quasi-experimental. In this research, involved 50 students which divided into two classes, 25 students in the class 7.3 as experimental class used Board Games (Snake and Ladders) and 25 students in the class 7.2 as control class used Lecturing Method. The research instrument used in this research was oral test. The researcher conducted pre-test then applied in both classes. then, the researcher gave post -test to see the increase of the mean score after the treatment used Board Games. The result of pre-test and post-test were analyzed used normality, homogeneity, an d two sample ttest. From the result of post-test can be seen the class that was taught using Board Games (Snake and Ladders) has higher mean score where the mean score of experimental class was 80.76 and the mean score in control class wa s 70.60. So, it can be seen the mean score in experimental class has higher more than in the control class. Based on the result of two sample t-test and the differences between the mean score in experimental class and control class, it can be concluded that the Board Game (Snake and Ladders) has a significant effect on students’ speaking skill in descriptive text at SMP Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang
