Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know whether or not Think Pair Share can enhance the students’ speaking skill at eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Ta njungpinang. The method used in this study is a Think Pair Share Method. Students speaking scoring rubrics, observation checklist, and interview guidance are used as data collection instrument. The subject of this study was the eleventh grade students SMA N 4 Tanjungpinang Class XI IPA 2 it had 32 students. Classroom action research was mainly intended to figure out whether or not Think Pair Share can improve the students’ speaking skill. The result of this study is the categories of students speaking skills in each aspect. To get the categories of students ’ speaking skill, the writer uses the rubric adapted from Brown and calculates the average score of students based on the formula adapted from Cozby, Then classifies the category of students speaking skill based on the table from Vagias and Wade. Implementation of Think Pair Share during teaching learning process does improve students’ performance in speaking. It can be seen while teaching learning process the students is active, enjoyable, and enthusiastic with the new situation using Think Pair Share method. In Think Pair Share, the students’ are always invited to shows their ideas or opinions in front of the class and also their friends too. In cycle one, the students’ still look shy and not confident if they want to share their ideas or opinions. It is different from cycle two. The students become active during the activities, they are not shy or afraid of asking question and sharing their ideas
