Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the types of errors most often carried out by eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Tanjungpinang. The subject of the study was the writing of recount texts of eighth grade students about their own experiences in the past. Text is analyzed by referring to surface strategy taxonomy; omission, addition, missformation, and missordering according too Dulay, Burt & Krashen. The design used in this study is descriptive text using a qualitative research approach where the researcher explains the results of the study by describing the data obtained. The technique used for data retrieval is direct observation techniques. The data collection tool is a written test. The results of the study showed that the number of errors made by students in the omission amounted to 63 errors or 18.97%, plus 62 errors or 18.67%, missformation 171 errors or 51.50%, and missordering totaling 36 errors or 10.84%. The total number of errors made by the eihth grade SMP Negeri 12 Tanjungpinang is 332 errors, the type of errors most often made by students is missf ormation where students often use the wrong morpheme or structure, and the lowest error is missordering.
