Abstract
This research discussed the students’ reading comprehension and translating ability in maritime text. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is or not a significant correlation between reading comprehension and students ’ ability in translating maritime text of the eighth semester students of English Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji. This research was used correlation research and this is a kind of quantitative method. The sample of this research is 23 students from C.02 class. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling. The researcher used an essay test to obtain the data of students’ reading comprehension and translation ability. The researcher used SPSS version 22.00 to calculate the data. The result explained that the data of thi s research was normal, linear, homogenous, and significant. There was a positive correlation of each variable. Based on the data analysis of significance testing, the pearson correlation is 0.602. It showed there was strong correlation between reading comp rehension and translation ability. The hypothesis was tested by using T -test formula. The result showed the value of t count was higher than ttable (4.327 > 2.080). It means that the Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant correlatio n between reading comprehension and students’ ability in translating maritime text of the eighth semester students of English Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji
