Abstract
The objective of this research was to know the effective of estafet writing method in learning writing explanation text at the 11 th grade of SMAN 3 Tanjungpinang in academic year 2018/2019. Reserch design that researcher use in this research is quasi-experimental Nonequivalent (Pre-Test and Post-Test) with quantitative approach. Results of analysing processing the data show considerable significance between the results of the post-test and the pre-test results. This result was also supported by the Mann-Whitney test in both classes. The Mann-Whitney test was used because the data found was homogeneous data. This is proved by the results of the homogeneity test using Bonett’s test and Leven’s test is p value of Bonett’s test is 0.128 and the p value of Leven’s test is 0.256 where the result is greater than α = 0.05. However, the data is not normally distributed. It is proved by the results of the homogeneity test using the Kosmogorof Smirnov test with the results is p value 0.010 in both classes which is smaller than Kosmogorof Smirnov test. The result of Mann-Whitney test is p value 0.0000 in both classes. this value is smaller than α = 0.05. From the results of the analysis and Mann-Whitney test, it can be concluded that estafet writing has a significance effective for students' writing ability in the explanation text material
