Abstract
The purpose of the study was to describe and find the type of code switching. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data in this study is in the form of dialogue in which there is code switching. The data source in this study is the novel Negeri 5 Menara published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama, July 2009 with a page thickness of 405 pages. Researcher used of technique field note in collecting data. The study findings indicated that there is code switching in the novel Negeri 5 Menara. The result of this study is that the existence of a type of external code switching in the novel Negeri 5 Menara based on theory suwito (1985).
