Abstract

In learning foreign language, one of the important aspects is vocabulary mastery. To converse perfectly in one foreign language, one should have the sufficient amount of vocabulary and able to use them correctly. Thus, this research aimed to analyzed students’ vocabulary mastery at SMAN 1 Teluk Bintan. The research was done on Class X MIPA students which consists of 23 students. The methodology used in this research was descriptive quantitative method. In this research, the researcher used test which consists of 20 questions fill in blank and a writing section about describing something to obtain the data. Based on the findings of this research, the mean score shown that students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text was in the Good category, at the score 61.6. Thus, it indicates that students’ skill in vocabulary is good. Students also faced some difficulties in answering the questions because they don’t know the meaning of the words and some words are new for them.
