Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the difficulties faced by students in the process of learning English speaking at MAN Tanjungpinang. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research is the difficulties faced by students in learning English speaking at MAN Tanjungpinang. Data collection techniques used by researchers in this study were questionnaires, speaking test, and interview. This study used the method of triangulation to ensure the validity of the data collected through questionnaires, speaking tests, and interviews. The data was then analyzed and the findings showed that a majority of the students at MAN Tanjungpinang faced difficulties in speaking English. The main challenges identified were in fluency and vocabulary, with many students struggling to speak fluently and having a limited vocabulary. These difficulties were found to be limiting the students' ability to speak English effectively. Furthermore, many students reported feeling shy or nervous when speaking in English, especially in front of the class.
