Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the ecological conditions of gonggong snails at aquatic of Dompak Village of Riau Islands seen from the water conditions, type of substrate, fishing technology, and the size of the catching, and to know the status of the sustainability of gonggong snails on ecological dimension at aquatic of Dompak Village of Riau Islands. This research method uses a purposive sampling method, with three stations they are Kelam pagi, Sekatap, and Tanjung siambang. Assessment of sustainability status population of gonggong snails on ecology dimension uses each score attribute ecological dimension. The results of research show is the ecological conditions of gonggong snails in Dompak Village quite good and support for the life of the gonggong snails population. The Status of sustainability of gonggong snails population on ecology dimensions can be seen from the four variables that catch technology with an index value (77,6) as very sustainable, then substrate with an index value (66,7) is quite sustainable, water conditions (63,9) is quite sustainable, and the size of the catch (61,1) is quite sustainable. With the water parameter was obtained water salinity ranged from 30.6 to 32,3 ‰, water temperature ranged from 30,1 to 30,3 °C, DO ranged between 6,5 to 6,7 mg/l, pH ranged 7,97 to 7,91. Substrate found is muddy sand, mud, and sand. Fishermen catch gonggong snail by picking up, diving and trawl, and catch size of gonggoong snails ranged from 49,9 to 61,2 mm.
