Abstract

The study aimed to determine the sosial and ecology potential of Sekatung Island areas of Natuna district Riau Islands Province. Type of this study is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used the structured interview and observation. Selection of informants used the purposive sampling technique. The results of this study show that the Sekatung Island areas has hight potential of social and ecology for ecotourism development. Biodiversity on the sea and land can be found in the Sekatung island areas and has the potential for marine ecotourism development. Based on the potential of the Sekatung island and surrounding, Sekatung island can be developed into new tourist destinations and positive impact to the social life of local communities and strengthen the integrity of the unitary state of Indonesia in the border region
