Abstract

"The purpose of this study wa to test the mathematics literacy skills of students and their effect to mathematics achievement. Mathematics literacy skills measured by a test Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) tasks, whereas mathematics achievement measured by the Final Exam. Sample of the study are students of chemical education class the first semester 2016/2017 as many as 20 students. The methods of the study was descriptive and inferential analysis. Descriptive analysis is used to provide an overview of the literacy skills of students and inferential analysis was used to test the effect of mathematics literacy skills to mathematics achievement of the students. The analysis data using simple regression with the hypothesis of the study was there are effect significant literacy skill to mathematics achievement. The results of the study showed that the mathematics literacy skills of students is low (45% of the students are able to complete the questions correctly).The hipothesis test shown that there are effect significantly between mathematics literacy skill toward mathematics achievement (sig = 0,034< 0,05)."
