Abstract

This research aimed to improve the students’ speaking skill through the talk show technique. The subject of this research was eleventh grade class of SMAN 2 Tanjungpinang 2022/2023 academic year which consisted of 41 students, 15 male and 26 female students. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) and decided to conduct action research by implementing the model proposed by Kemmis and McTaggart. There were two cycles, first cycle conducted on two meetings and second cycle conducted on three meetings. There were four steps in each cycle: planning, action, observation and reflection. The results of the research showed that through talk show technique in the English teaching and learning process was effective to improve the students’ speaking skills. They could perform more confidently. Moreover, their enthusiasm and interest in English learning also improved. Furthermore, there was an increase percentage from 41% to 87% from the pre-speaking test to the speaking test 2. It concluded that through the talk show technique the students’ speaking skill improved.
