Abstract

Writing is one of the most important skills that should be mastered by students in affording a good communication. However, many students regard that writing is a difficult skill to be mastered. Writing needs a long process which requires a high motivation of the students to complete it. The purpose of this research was to know whether or not there was a significant influence of using SMARICALITION Poster on students’ motivation and writing skill in writing analytical exposition text. The researcher taught analytical exposition text to the students by using SMARICALITION Poster. The poster was used to explain the material about analytical exposition text and stimulate ideas to the students to write a good analytical exposition text. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire and test. The questionnaire was used to collect the data of students’ motivation, and the test was used to collect the data of students’ writing skill. After making sure that the students had already understood about analytical exposition text, the researcher instructed the students to fill the questionnaire and to write an analytical exposition text based on the topic given by the researcher. The result of the students’ motivation showed that P-Value = 0.6503 which was bigger than the α = 0.025 which meant that the alternative hypothesis had to be refused, while the null hypothesis had to be accepted. On the other hand, the result of students’ writing skill showed that P-Value = 0.000 which was smaller than the α = 0.025 which meant that the alternative hypothesis had to be accepted, while the null hypothesis had to be refused. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was no significant influence of using SMARICALITION Poster on students’ motivation in writing analytical exposition text, and there was a significant influence of using SMARICALITION Poster on students’ writing skill in writing analytical exposition text.
