Abstract
Rational choice theory involves comparing available options or alternatives before making a decision. Parents in Sungai Harapan may compare the health benefits, quality and price of healthy porridge with less healthy options. If healthy porridge is perceived to provide higher added value in terms of nutrition and safety, parents may choose it as the better option. Based on the statement of the problem above, the author formulates a question regarding How Rational Choice of Parents in Choosing Healthy Food for Complementary Feeding for Toddlers 6-17 Months in Sungai Harapan Batam City. This study uses rational choice theory, which recognizes that individuals have an active role as decision makers, especially in the family context. In terms of complementary food selection, older mothers tend to have greater autonomy and confidence in making such decisions. They are more likely to rely on personal knowledge and experience, as well as family values that have been formed as they age. The research approach used in this study is qualitative with descriptive type. The research results of this decision are guided by the values, advantages, and disadvantages that individuals consider. Rational choice highlights that parents who choose to buy healthy baby porridge feel the advantages and benefits of the decision. This social pattern creates a system of interdependence.
