Abstract
The presence of a dimly lit café in Kampung Melayu, Tambelan District, has an influence and has a negative impact on household problems. These dimly lit cafés, which are dominated by female servants, now exist, especially among Kampung Melayu husbands and men, because dimly lit cafés are considered a place of entertainment and are a source of problems and escape for husbands who are experiencing problems in the family, thus making a family become divided if the problems that arise do not immediately find a solution. The aim of this research is to explain the existence of dimly lit cafes as a cause of dysfunction in families in Tambelan District, Bintan Regency. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach which examines the existence of dim cafes as a cause of family dysfunction in Tambelan District, Bintan Regency using a purposive sampling technique with 6 informants, namely residents of Kampung Melayu Village who experience family dysfunction. The theoretical basis used is Robert Merton's structural functionalism theory. Based on the results of the research, the researchers found that the existence of dimly lit cafes was a contributing factor to family dysfunction which ended in violence against the community in Kampung Melayu, Tambelan District, Bintan Regency. Where the existence of a family in general must fulfill the functions of the family itself. Such as religious functions, socio-cultural functions, love functions, protection functions, reproductive functions, socialization functions, education, economic functions and environmental development functions. However, in reality, the above functions are not fulfilled properly in families in Kampung Melayu, Tambelan District, Bintan Regency. The main factor causing dysfunction in families in the Kampung Melayu community is the presence of dimly lit cafes as the initial cause of poor communication and problem solving by both partners, which is further aggravated by acts of violence, infidelity and economic problems that end in divorce. Through the theory of structural functionalism, RobertK. Merton emphasized the need for order in a system, where order requires balance (equilibrium) for each family member who must be able to maintain and fulfill their respective roles and functions in a family. However, the order, balance and function of the family emphasized by Robert K. Merton are not fulfilled by every family member, especially husbands and wives in Kampung Melayu Village. The dysfunction that occurs is that some families often experience problems of infidelity, violence and even end in divorce because both parties are unable to resolve family problems through two-way communication. Keywords: Family, function, disfunction
