Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of using folklore animation videos on students' speaking skills in narrative texts. Twenty-six students from SMPN 7 Bintan, a school situated in a maritime region, participated in the research sample. A quasi-experimental design was employed, including a pre-test and a post-test for every group. Two classes, each with 13 students, were used: Class 8A was utilised as the experimental class and Class 8B as the control class. A speaking test was used as the data collection instrument, and the data was analysed using the independent T-test through SPSS. The analysis results showed a significance value of 0.000, which is below the significance level of 0.05, as well as a T-test value of 4.878, which exceeds the critical value of 2.064. These results showed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, it can be stated that the folklore animation videos have a significant effect on improving students' speaking skills in narrative text in grade nine of SMPN 7 Bintan.
