Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of local folklore narrative text on students’ reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 2 Singkep. This study used a quasi-experimental design involving pre-test and post-test groups. The subjects of this study were class X students, Class X.A with 35 students as the control group and Class X.C with 35 students as the experimental group. To collect data, an essay test was used as an instrument. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS version 25 with the independent sample t-test. The results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.03, which was less than 0.05, and a T-test value of 3.074, which exceeded the critical value of 1.995. These results indicated that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. This showed that the use of local folklore texts had a significant effect towards student’ reading comprehension of narrative text.
