Abstract

The hospitality industry offers products in the form of services and accommodation where hotels are one part of the industry. At SMK Negeri 1 Bintan Timur there is a hotel department major and the students learn things. However, the lack of speaking skills in learners encourages this research to be conducted. This research uses roleplay as the learning method. Roleplay is a learning method that requires learners to role-play a real situation. This research uses pre-experimental method to get the required data. The data shows the result of t-count of 31.5 while the t-table is 2.06. If 81.1 is higher than 2.06 (t-count 31.5 > t-table 2.06) and sig (2 tailed) is lower than 0.05, it can be concluded that the hypothesis Ha is accepted. Thus, roleplay is one of the learning methods that has a significant effect on improving students' speaking skills at SMK Negeri 1 Bintan Timur.
