Abstract

This study aims to explore how the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy can improve the reading comprehension of class X students at SMK Perkapalan Hang Tuah Tanjunguban. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which was carried out in one cycle consisting of four sessions. The process included the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection, with the participation of 25 students. Data was collected through reading comprehension assessments conducted before and after the implementation of the Directed Reading and Thinking Activity (DRTA), as well as observations made during the learning sessions. The research results showed a significant increase in the average reading comprehension scores of the students, rising from 68.16 on the initial test to 82.4 on the final test. Additionally, the proportion of students achieving scores above the Minimum Passing Criteria (KKM) increased from 44% to 84%. Beyond score improvements, there was also a significant increase in student engagement and active participation during the learning process. It could be concluded that the DRTA strategy significantly improve students’ reading comprehension at SMK Perkapalan Hang Tuah.
