Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effect of using YouTube as a learning medium on the listening skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 16 Tanjungpinang. The method employed is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design (pre-test and post-test control group design). The sample consists of two classes: an experimental class that received instruction through YouTube videos, and a control class taught using audio media, totaling 60 students. Data were collected using listening tests administered before and after the treatment, and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent samples t-tests. The results show a significant improvement in students' listening skills in the experimental class, with the post-test mean score reaching 76.17, higher than the control class which obtained an average of 67.67. Statistical tests revealed a significant difference between both groups (p < 0.001), indicating that the use of YouTube videos was effective in enhancing students' listening ability. These findings recommend the integration of YouTube as an interactive and engaging learning medium to support the improvement of English listening skills in junior high school students.
