Abstract
This study aimed to investigate students’ perceptions of TikTok as a medium for English vocabulary enhancement at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji. This study employed a descriptive mixed-methods approach using an explanatory sequential design. The participants were 74 fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji in the academic year 2025/2026. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while the qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings revealed that students generally had positive perceptions of TikTok as a medium for English vocabulary enhancement. Students perceived that TikTok provided frequent exposure to English vocabulary, facilitated contextualized learning through multimedia content, increased engagement and enjoyment in learning, supported vocabulary retention, and offered flexibility in the learning process. Students also considered TikTok more interactive and engaging than traditional learning methods. However, several challenges were identified, including distractions from non-educational content and difficulties in understanding certain English-language content. Overall, TikTok was perceived as a beneficial supplementary learning media that supports English vocabulary enhancement through authentic language exposure, engaging content, and flexible learning opportunities
