Abstract

The purposed of the study was to find out whether using humour stories as learning material in narrative text was able to improve the students’ reading comprehension at the eight grade of SMPN 1 BINTAN. The subject of this research was the VIII grade students which consisted 29 students, 15 male students and 14 female students. This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the researcher used the research to conducted action research by implementing the model proposed by Arikunto. There were two cycle with four meeting in each cycle. There were four board in each cycle: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result of the research showed that the using humour stories as learning material was able to improve the students’ reading comprehension at the eight grade of SMPN 1 BINTAN. In the first cycle, the number of students who passed the minimum criteria for completeness of 68 were 14 students out of 29 students (48, 27%). In the second cycle, the number of students who passed the minimum criteria for completeness of 68 were 28 students out of 29 students (96, 55%).
