Abstract
One of the reason to this title was the previous teaching method used by the teacher in SMAN 1 Toapaya, that causes the results of learning process could not achieved. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out whether using snowball throwing technique as learning material in narrative text was able to improve the students’ reading comprehension at 11th grade at SMAN 1 Toapaya. The subject of this research was the XI grade students which consisted 30 students, 19 male students and 11 female students. This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the researcher used the research to conduct action research by implementing the model proposed by Arikunto. There were two cycle with four meeting in each cycle. There were four steps in each cycle: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instruments used were test (post-test) and observation sheet. The result of the research showed that the using snowball throwing technique in teaching narrative text could improve the students’ reading comprehension at the 11th grade at SMAN 1 Toapaya. In the cycle I, the number of students who passed the minimum criteria for completeness of 70 was 13 students out of 30 students (43%). In the cycle II, the number of students who passed the minimum criteria for completeness of 70 was 28 students out of 30 students (93%). Based on the observation in cycle I, there were 2 indicators that described a good learning process that has not been achieved, namely, 1) the students could not make questions related to the text given, and 2) the students did not ask questions if they did not understand. In cycle II, there was an increased in only 1 indicator that described a good learning process that has not been achieved, namely, 1) the students could not make questions related to the text given.
