Abstract

The aimed of this study is the researcher wants to find out what factors of the lack of interaction between English teachers and students in the classroom. The method used was qualitative. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The instruments of the data collection were an interview and a questionnaire. The participants of this research were of English teachers’ and students in ninth grade at MTs Negeri Tanjung pinang, this research focused on 40 students. The researcher analyzed the data by transcribing the interview and transcribing students’ questionnaires. The finding of this research showed that two factors of the lack of interaction between English teachers’ and students in the classroom, including the factor in the use of the language, the student tended to use Bahasa Indonesia when communicating during the English learning process. The student factors, Student a lack of self-motivation to learn English, a lack of vocabulary, feeling afraid and shyness, and student doubtful when they want to speak English. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the interaction between English teachers and students of ninth grade at MTs Negeri Tanjungpinang was not maximized.
