Abstract

This study aimed at improving students’ speaking skill through role play technique at the eighth grade of SMPN 10 Tanjungpinang. The subject of this research was the VIII.6 grade students which consisted of 30 students, 16 for female and 14 for male students. This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) and decided to conduct action research by implementing the model proposed by Nunan. There were two cycles with three meetings in each cycle. There were four board in each cycles: planning, action, observation and reflection. This research is classified as Classroom Action Research which is conducted to improve the speaking skills of class VIII.6 students of SMPN 10 Tanjungpinang 2022/2023. The action taken in this research is to apply the Strategy Socio Effective and Speaking Skill method. Therefore, the research procedure used in this study is a Classroom Action Research procedure which is carried out in the form of cycles. the results can be seen from the process of improving students' speaking skills in each cycle and can be seen from the increase in student scores in cycle I in cycle II in chapter four. In cycle I, the number of students who met the minimum completeness criteria was 51, 5 out of 25 students (2.20%). In cycle II the number of students who met the minimum completeness criteria was 75 as many as 27 out of 30 students (96.66%).
