Abstract
This research aims to investigate the use of self-directed learning strategies in reading course of fourth semester students at English Language Study Program Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji Tanjungpinang. In this study, the research participants were the fourth Semester English Students at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji Tanjungpinang. They consisted of ten students from class K1 and K2, from each class five students were taken as participants. The research design employed in this study is descriptive qualitative, utilizing an analysis technique. The setting of place in this research is at at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji Tanjungpinang. The methods used to gather the data consist of interviews and questionnaires. Based on the instrument, the researcher investigated the use of self-directed learning strategy in extensive reading course with ten statements. The research results indicate that the fourth-semester students have implemented self-directive learning strategy in extensive reading course. Students felt the positive impact of implementing this strategy.
