Abstract
This study investigates students’ vocabulary mastery in using antonyms and synonyms within the English Language Education Students as a subject for the research at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji. This study uses quantitative descriptive research methodology, by analyzed the result of their test to find out what level of vocabulary mastery they are. Before they took the test, they have to read the narrative text first. The researcher used vocabulary test as the instrument for this research. The results indicate that most of the students (14) have a good understanding in vocabulary and they are in “Very good” category. Meanwhile there is also a few students (2) who have a poor understanding in vocabulary and categorized into “Less”. The researcher found the average score of students’ vocabulary is using antonyms and synonyms was 80.75. In conclusion, students’ vocabulary mastery in using antonym and synonym is categorized as very good. This research contributes to the existing literature on vocabulary acquisition and offers practical recommendations for find out vocabulary mastery level of the students or any other participants who learn English for the future researcher.
