Abstract

Listening is one of the language skills that students need to develop in learning English. However, many students at SMK Negeri 1 Bintan Timur still showed low listening skill. Based on a preliminary study, only 9 out of 22 students (40.91%) in class XI RPL 1 met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) in English. Therefore, this study aimed to improve students’ listening skills through the use of the English Fairy Tales podcast. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in one cycle consisting of three meetings. The participants of this study were students of class XI RPL 1 in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through a listening test and student engagement observation checklists. The results showed that after using the podcast, 16 out of 22 students (72.73%) reached the KKM, showing an improvement of 31.82%. Students’ engagement also increased, especially in behavioral, emotional, and cognitive aspects. They became more focused and actively involved in the learning process. It can be concluded that the use of the English Fairy Tales podcast helped improve students’ listening skill.
