Abstract
This study explored the teachers’ integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching reading at SMKN 1 Tanjungpinang, addressing the limited use of ICT tools and the low effectiveness of teaching reading. This study employed a case study method within a qualitative research framework, data were collected through teacher interview, classroom observation, and documentation of 50% of students’ reading assignments. The findings revealed that the teacher integrated ICT tools, such as laptop, speaker, projector, applications like Kahoot! and interactive videos, to create engaging and interactive learning experiences. The integration process was adaptive, aligned with the materials’ needs to enhance student interest and comprehension. The study identified positive impacts, including improved student focus, engagement, vocabulary identification, and reading comprehension. However, challenges such as distractions from unsupervised smartphone use were also highlighted. To optimize ICT integration, the study recommended diversifying ICT tools, providing professional development for teachers, implementing structured ICT management in classrooms, emphasizing interactive learning, and incorporating real-time assessments. These strategies aimed to create a more dynamic, and effective learning environment for vocational school students, ultimately enhancing reading instruction outcomes. The study contributed insights for educators and policymaker seeking to advance ICT-based teaching strategies.
