Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know whether or not Classroom Action Research using short film can improve the students speaking skill in the narrative text at ninth grade students of SMPN 5 Tanjungpinang. The subject of this study is the ninth grade students of SMPN 5 Tanjungpinang. The number of research is 33 students. The method used in this study is a Classroom Action Research Method. The research conducted in SMPN 5 Tanjungpinang. Students speaking scoring rubrics and observation checklists are used as data collection instruments. To improve the students speaking skills in narrative text, the researcher did two cycles to improve their understanding. The results of the study which is conducted by the researcher showed that the finding shows from the percentage of students who gained scores≥ 73 in the preliminary study and speaking test. In cycle I speaking test was higher than the preliminary study: 63%≥48% and in cycle II, speaking test II was higher than speaking test I: 81%≥ 63%. So, the students„ speaking skill was improved after using short film in teaching-learning process.
