Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the dominant students’ problem in speaking English at tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang. This research took place at SMAN 5 Tanjungpinang. The subject of this research consisted of 5 students from class X3 at SMAN 5 Tanjungpinang. This research used descriptive qualitative by analysis technique as the research design. Observation, interview and documentation were the instruments in collecting data. The result showed that the dominant students’ problem in speaking English at tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Tanjungpinang was pronunciation. The researcher suggested that the students should practicing more speaking by themselves. The more often you practice, your pronunciation will be better. The researcher recommended the English teacher to instruct their students to add vocabulary in every meeting and made the process of teaching and learning enjoyable and not monotone for the them to enjoy and easier to comprehend in learning English.
