Abstract

The purpose of this research aims to know whether or not there is an effect of critical literacy approach on students’ critical reading ability at first grade student of SMAN 5 Batam. The sample of this research was X IPS 2 which consisted of 42 students. The sampling technique of this research is cluster random sampling. This research used a pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and one group post-test. The instrument of this research is reading test by using multiple choice. The data was analyze by using SPSS Statistic 26 software. Based on the finding of this research, the result was displayed that the mean score of pre-test was 63.10 and the mean score of post-test was 84.05, which indicated that the mean score of post-test was better than pre-test. As the t-count 10.733 > t-table 2.021. It showed that H1 is accepted, H2 is rejected and H0 is rejected. This research concluded there is an increase effect of using critical literacy approach on students critical reading ability after the treatments done.
