Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Sing a Song method in enhancing students' vocabulary proficiency at MAN Tanjungpinang. The study involved two groups. The first group was the experimental group and was taught using the Sing a-Song method. The second group was the control group and was taught using the traditional lecture approach. Data analysis using an independent sample t-test showed that, with a significance level of <0.001, the average post-test score of the experimental group (84.32) was significantly higher than that of the control group (74.00). These results indicate a statistically significant difference between the two groups, suggesting that the Sing a Song method significantly improves students' vocabulary mastery. Normality and homogeneity tests also showed that the data met the assumptions of parametric tests. This study supports B.F. Skinner's behaviorist theory, which states that learning is a change in behavior due to external stimuli and reinforcement. Songs function as auditory stimuli that reinforce students' memory, pronunciation, and understanding of new vocabulary. The results of this study align with previous findings that songs aid in vocabulary learning. Therefore, the Sing a Song method is recommended as an effective, enjoyable strategy for English language instruction, particularly for enriching students' vocabulary.
