Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the use of Information Gap Activity techniques has an effect on the interaction competence of tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Tanjungpinang. This study uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design. The sample of this study amounted to 36 students of grade 10.16, who were taken using a convenience sampling technique. The research instruments were paired speaking tests and validated interaction assessment rubrics. To determine the initial abilities of students before and after treatment, researchers used analysis techniques using SPSS. The average pre-test score for students was 57.44 and increased to 75.94 in the post-test. The result showed that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) was less than 0.05 (< 0.001). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. This indicates a significant effect of using information gap activity on tenth graders’ interactional competence.
