Abstract
This qualitative case study investigates English Language Teaching Department (EFL) students' perspectives on using Stimuler AI as an independent speaking practice tool. Data were collected from six participants over a 7-day trial using semi-structured interviews, daily reflective logbooks, and in-app performance records, followed by Reflexive Thematic Analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) and document analysis (Bowen, 2009). The findings reveal that students' perspectives on Stimuler AI are non-uniform and closely shaped by their individual profiles of speaking anxiety. Students driven by fear of negative social evaluation perceived the app as a safe haven that effectively lowered their affective filter, whereas those anxious about authority power distance conceptualized it merely as a technical drilling tool. Pedagogically, real-time feedback was identified as the primary affordance, while premium paywall constraints and technical glitches constituted the main limitations. This study concludes that the integration of Stimuler AI among EFL students is mediated by individual psychological and affective realities rather than technological features alone.
