Abstract

This study aimed to determine EFL students' perceptions of the use of the TikTok application as a medium for learning English vocabulary. This research used a mixed-methods approach that combined quantitative data through questionnaires and qualitative data through interviews. The research subjects were students of the English Education Study Program of Universitas Maritim Raja Aji Haji, batch 2022. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a positive perception of the use of TikTok in vocabulary learning, with an average of 90% answering strongly agree and agree. TikTok was considered accessible, interesting, fun, and supportive of independent and flexible learning. The visual and audio features of short videos also helped to improve vocabulary recall and comprehension. However, some challenges included distractions from entertainment content, a lack of learning focus, and content that was not suitable for academic contexts.
