Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of differentiated learning on students' speaking skills in eighth grade. Thirty students from SMPN 003 Tanjungpinang participated in this research. A pre-experimental one-group pretest posttest design was employed. The students took a speaking pre-test and post-test, focusing on using the simple future tense through dialogue. The data were collected using a speaking rubric assessing content, vocabulary, filler words, and grammar. After four weeks of treatment using differentiated learning strategies, the results were analyzed using a paired sample t-test with SPSS. The analysis showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05, and a notable increase in the average score from 63.57 (pre-test) to 81.83 (post-test). These findings indicate that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that differentiated learning has a significant effect on improving students’ speaking skills in grade eight of SMPN 003 Tanjungpinang.
