Abstract

This research aims to analyze the Teaching Techniques of Speaking Skills used by English teachers based on the Curriculum Merdeka at SMAN 17 BATAM. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that the Curriculum Merdeka provided greater pedagogical freedom for teachers and students, enabling more flexible and student-centered learning. The teacher applied various teaching techniques such as discussions, presentations, and Role-Play to enhance student speaking ability. However, several challenges were encountered, including limited vocabulary, low student confidence, and an unsupportive learning environment. Assesments were conducted using project based rubics focusing on pronounciation, fluency, and the use of body language. The study concluded that the implementation of the Curriculum Merdeka has gradually supported the improvement of student speaking skills, although further development in more interactive and inclusive teaching methods is needed.
