Abstract

This research delved into the implementation of learning activities in the English Club program at SMP Negeri 10 Tanjungpinang, focusing on the types of activities and how they are implemented. The study employed a qualitative descriptive design, involving observations across four meetings and semi-structured interviews with one supervising teacher and nine regular student participants. The findings revealed that the English Club program implemented various interactive activities, such as Question and Answer (Q&A), games-based activities, storytelling, individual speaking practices, group discussions, and light debates. Additionally, supporting activities like singing together to practice pronunciation, using digital quizzes via Quizizz, and conducting outdoor learning sessions were implemented. The teacher acted as a non-dominant facilitator who provided simple instructions and explicit behavioural demonstrations, while student participation was mandatory, requiring everyone to speak at least one word or simple sentence during activities. Overall, the program successfully created a supportive, relaxed, and happy learning atmosphere where students felt comfortable practicing English without fear of being judged or mocked by their peers. This research contributed to the understanding of extracurricular language learning management in junior high schools, offering insights for educators seeking to build low-anxiety speaking environments.
