Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the listening strategies used by 10th grade students at SMAN 1 LINGGA in the process of learning activities. In this study the researcher used 4 strategies namely bottom-up, top-down DLTA and Runing dictation. Qualitative research focuses on several methods, which involve interpretive, naturalistic methods to deal with its subjects. This means that qualitative researchers study something by means of its natural environment, trying to understand or explain the phenomenon. Based on the results of the study, it shows that students understand listening strategies in the learning process. In this case the role of the teacher is very important to take action where the teacher must make something more interesting when learning takes place. In the learning process, strategies that are often used by students to facilitate the listening learning process are top-down, DLTA (Direct Listening Thinking Activity) and bottom-up, from the results of interviews and surveys conducted by researchers. The researcher can conclude that students at SMAN 1 LINGGA use the DLTA strategy as much as 40%, Top-down strategy 40% and also 20% use bottom-up strategy. The researcher used a sample of five students from the tenth grade of SMA N 1 LINGGA to study the problems that students have with listening strategies. The researcher examined students'' difficulties with listening comprehension by using interviews Examine the listening strategies issues that pupils were having. Students'' problems in listening strategies related to speaker were unclear pronunciation and the speaker speaks quickly.
